R12: Narelle

Wow! What a journey ... has it really been 12 months?

A big thankyou to Kate for the concept of a Stay at Home Robin and inviting us to join in. I'm usually a pattern follower when making quilts with a small change here and there sometimes. This was a great way to 'think for myself' about each step with guidance from Kate's instructions ... I hope that I have managed to balance each little quilt well enough.

Both quilts are now bound and labels attached.

Before binding the blue wall hanging I decided I liked it better upside down so I reversed it before binding and hanging.

The End.

I was worried I may not make it this month but finally found some time yesterday to get embellishing.

With the blue I've added 3 lemon and 3 dragonfly fabric pom poms. The bottom centre rectangle still needs something but I'll think on it a bit longer.

The chickens were a little hungry on the tan piece so I've stitched some gold beads for corn. Then I added some red beads in the shape of a heart. I'd like to add more but will wait till the binding is on and see what else it needs.

Thankyou Kate. This has been a wonderful journey and I can't wait for the final reveal.

At the start of the month I decided to quilt both pieces but couldn't think how I wanted to quilt the blue so I left it and worked on the tan piece.

Finally last week I decided on some simple stitch in the ditch.

For the tan piece I started off with some straight line quilting with the idea of forming diamond shapes but didn't like it so .... unpick!

Then I decided it was a good chance to practice some free motion quilting. With the red applique hearts and blue embroidered flowers it seemed like a vine of hearts and flowers was the go.

Here's a closeup of some of the hearts and flowers.

If I ever need a second opinion Jayne is always happy to give my sewing the once over.

This month I took Kate's suggestion and added a little embroidery to my pieces. A yellow dragonfly has landed on the blue ...

... here he is a little closer.

Three blue flowers blossomed on the left side of the tan ...

... a closer look.

I'm looking forward to checking out others' embelishments.

I've been enjoying seeing what everyone else has been adding to the blocks for round 8 ... they're all looking great!

Back when I added the heart fabric piece I kept 2 hearts to do 'something' with later ... and now later has arrived I have blanket stitched them on.

For the blue I made a little 1/2" hexie flower and stitched it on.

Happy Embelishing :o)

Today I added the 3 pieces to the bottom of my blue robin. That snowball block on the right will need a darker embelishment for sure.

Yesterday I took out the tan scrap container. I've been wanting to add a log cabin all along so it was now or never.
The only problem with doing step 7 early ... it seems a long time till the next step. I'm sure I can find some other sewing to keep me busy :o)

R6 Narelle

With all this rainy weather we've been having, it's perfect for some sewing time. So while the sky has been rumbling and the rain pouring down, I took out both my tan and blue scrap containers and started on Round 6.

Today I looked through my "100 Quilt Blocks" book for some inspiration for piecing.

Both have a plain 4" x 3" piece at the top ready for some embelishment later on. Then for the tan project I made 3 small versions of a block called 'Bright Hopes'.

For the blue one I found 'Rope and Anchor' which is a 9" block and made a third of it.

I really am pleased with the way these two have evolved and can't wait for January and instructions for round 7.

Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas.

I'm loving the way these two are the same but taking their own path at the same time.

I decided to try and balance the little 4 patches bottom right with some more in the top section.

When it came to the blue, I wanted to add triangles but was struggling with the 4"x6" so I went with two 4"x4"'s. Again to balance the 4 patches bottom right, I ended up with a 4"x5" of checkers.
I look forward to seeing where and what step 6 will be. It's getting exciting now that there is only minimal space left on the virtual quilt.
Thanks Kate :o)

Finally found or made the time today to add round 4 to my blocks. I'm adding a little bit of red to this one and might just applique a couple of those hearts to the bottom right corner.

Looking forward to November's addition ... wonder where it will go.

I like how Narelle's two projects are similar, but different.
