Round 7!

OK, it's what you've all been waiting for (maybe). Round 7 - January 2011. This is the last round where you will actually be adding overall size to your quilt. The rest of the rounds will involve embellishing, adding to the top, quilting, etc.

So, here's what to do - add 3 different pieces, 5x5", 5x6" and 5x5" (finished sizes) to the bottom of your previous blocks. Or, obviously, to the top, if you prefer.

Here's my virtual quilt:

This is the last update to the virtual quilt - too hard to embellish it virtually, so I'm not going to try. But I'll carry on adding to my real quilt(s) - hopefully fairly early in the month, so you have an example to inspire you.

Happy New Year - may it be a great one for creativity and productivity!

Round 6

So, time for round six! This month we will be adding two pieces to the left hand side - 3x9" and 3x4". As with last month, I think you will have more fun if you try to make them quite separate.

As you can see from the overall layout below, we are not far away from finishing the basic piecing part of our tops (embellishments, etc being the later required additions).

Round 5!

Yep, it's a new month (sorry about that...)

This month, you will be adding two pieces to your quilt top - although they have the effect of making up a single piece, the fact that they are two separate units means that you should treat them as such stylistically, rather than just jamming them together into one big piece, if you see what I mean. So, add two pieces, 4"x6" and 4"x7" (finished sizes) to the top of your quilt. Which you place to the left and which to the right is up to you. And of course, as usual, if you prefer to add these to the bottom rather than the top, that's ok as well.

Here's my virtual quilt - I have added a coffee cup block with a brown rectangle (the 4x7 piece) and another framed railfence block (the 4x6" piece) to the top of the virtual quilt.

Here's the overall view of the quilt, so you can see what we're talking about in terms of placement (though the border is only for reference; our instructions will not include a border). The top of the built piece has now reached the top of the planned space (though of course, for some of you, it may not, if you've been adding to the bottom instead of the top, etc).

I haven't made my actual pieces for this month yet, but as soon as I get them done, I'll post them here... Hopefully before too long!

Round 4!

Yes, I know, it's hard to believe it's October already. But it is, and with it, another instruction on the Stay at Home Robin. October's task is to add a piece, 3x9", to the left hand side of your growing quilt. Or, obviously, it would be ok if you added it to the right hand side. Here's my virtual quilt with its new addition:

And here's a placement diagram to show how the sections you've made so far will fit into the finished whole:

As for my ACTUAL robin, I hope I will be able to work on it this weekend - though I have a ton of other stuff to do as well. Still, no birthdays, no major errands, no major housecleaning - if I didn't think it would be sure to jinx me, I'd say it was looking good for a high-sewing-content weekend!

Round 3: Virtual Robin

Finally got my big laptop back from the laptop doctor (the little one doesn't have EQ installed, as it has no disk drive) , so I can show the progress on the virtual robin, including the spacing, relative to the entire finished quilt size...
