Finished!

Look at me - I'm a miracle of finishing stuff :) This one was prompted by needing a present for someone who is leaving at DH's work - any excuse to finish something is a good one, right?

One down, one to go?

Finally finished up one of the pieces I was making for the SAHR. Who knows when the other will get finished,but at least this one is done.

As I mentioned in my round 6 photos, I cheated a little this month and actually added round 7 in the last few days of December. So they are ready to show you straight away! With the batik piece, I decided to add the blocks to the top rather than the bottom, and I'm fairly happy with how this looks before embellishing, etc.



With the Japanese taupe piece, I added them to the bottom, then I really disliked the top.



I grumbled about this to myself for a while, then got inspired to simply turn the piece on it's side, and look...



- much better - the heavier, darker parts really need to go at the bottom and leading down. So, if you get to the finished top point and aren't that happy with your piece, do try turning it around (this will be less practical on some tops, like Lisa's, which feature realistic objects which have tops and bottoms!) to see if you like it better. And don't forget, you will be adding some stuff to the top of it over the next 5 rounds, so don't panic, there's still room to make some more changes and add finishing touches.

Down to the wire! But, as with yesterday's offering, I have actually cheated and finished the next step, too - I'll be scheduling my posting of round 7 for about 2 minutes after midnight on January 1st...

Finally got around to doing one of my round 6 blocks - the other will be on tomorrow's list. Cutting it fine on this one, I know, but I shall make up for it by posting January first thing on the first - I know I can do that, as I have sneakily employed my host's priviledge and already added the January blocks. Cheeky, I know, but there have to be a few perks, right?

Another Robin: Kate

At the start of this project, I was toying with the idea of doing two robins in parallel but was so busy the idea kinda never went anywhere. However, this afternoon, after I finished off something else I was working on, I had a little more sewing time and decided to go ahead and start a second robin. I wanted to do something very different from the black and batik one, so I chose to work with my Japanese taupe fabrics. I started with a 6" variable star, and went on to:



a large rose, unpieced, for the second round, followed by:




A piano key type piece, separated from the other blocks by a one inch strip for the third round. For the current, fourth round, I decided to do another unpieced piece, again a larger rose, this time with a green background:



It's a lot straighter than it looks in this photo!

So, today I had some more sewing time (yeah!) and did Round 4 of my Robin - I like the piece I've added, but on looking at it again, I think I'd prefer it on the right hand side, so I might take it off and sew it on the other side!

edited to say, I've moved it to the other side - don't you think it looks better? I do! Even unironed...

Round Three!

Here's what you all may have been waiting for (or not!) - step 3. This month's instruction is to add a strip, 10x3" (finished size) to the top of the two previous blocks. Alternatively, you could add it to the bottom. I can't show a photo of my virtual quilt because my big laptop is off being repaired (again, grrr.) and although I have the actual EQ file on a flash drive, my little laptop doesn't have EQ installed on it, so I can't get at it to take the snapshots (no CD drive on the little laptop - it's a netbook). So instead, I've just done my actual quilt a little earlier. I'm going to change the squished, wonky green circle - partly, it needs another colour in that spot, and partly, it's squished and wonky, but essentially, here's what I'm doing. Ta da!
